The Focus on the Family Welcome Center is more than an encouraging, welcoming place – it’s also the home to an award-winning indoor play area dedicated to Adventures in Odyssey.

The Welcome Center was built in 1994 thanks to a gift from the Prince family from Holland, MI. It receives an estimated 250,000 guests from all 50 states and more than 100 countries each year.

For Odyssey fans, the best part of the Welcome Center is the award-winning indoor play area dedicated to the beloved radio program. This children’s space contains a recording studio where kids can perform their own AIO episode; a three-story slide, “A Bend-A-Go”; a puppet stage; the Whit’s End Soda Shoppe featuring a full menu and the much sought after WOD-FAM-CHOC-SOD (World Famous Chocolate Soda; and free birthday party rooms where more than 450 celebrations were held in 2011.

The Welcome Center is consistently one of the top ten tourist destinations in Colorado Springs. This is due, in part, to the price of admission – it’s free.

Here are some additional facts about the Welcome Center:

  • Nearly 4 million people have visited since the facility opened in 1994.
  • The bookstore, located at the backend of the facility, is 7,000 square feet and holds 5,555 book titles and 656 bibles.
  • Many children with terminal illnesses and disabilities have chosen the Welcome Center as their dream destination. To date, Focus on the Family has hosted about 20 children from groups like Make-A-Wish, Dreams Come True, Magic Moments, Indian Summer Cancer Camps and St. Jude’s Hospital.
  • The center has a large film screen that runs nonstop videos of Veggie Tales and Adventures in Odyssey episodes. There’s a “Narnia Room” that enables visitors to enter through an antique wardrobe and scavenger hunt for 20 items related to elements found in C.S. Lewis’ Chronicles of Narnia book series.
  • A special toddler playroom called “Camp What-a-Nut” is available to children ages 0-4 and their parents.

The Welcome Center Hours are Monday through Saturday, 9-5 p.m. during the summer.
